IPTV on Windows and macOS

Why a computer is worth setting up

Even if you never watch on it, a working desktop installation tells you things no television can. A laptop can be plugged straight into the router with a cable, moved between rooms, and tested on a different network entirely.

If a channel plays perfectly on a wired laptop and stutters on the television, you have isolated the problem in under a minute, and it is not the subscription.

What to install

A desktop media player capable of handling live streams. We name the one we support with your access details rather than leaving you to choose from a crowded field of look-alikes.

Both Windows and macOS are supported. Machines from the last several years have ample performance for this; hardware is rarely the constraint on a desktop.

What it is not good at

  • Sofa viewing. There is no remote and the interface expects a mouse.
  • Being left on. Sleep settings interrupt long streams unless you change them.
  • Battery. On a laptop, sustained video decoding drains it quickly.

For everyday watching, a streaming stick or a television-based install is the better answer.

Setting up

HD, Full HD and 4K
where the source allows

Picture quality depends on the channel or title and your broadband.
Playback still depends on the source and your
connection, especially on busy evenings.

Windows and Mac specifics

Desktop players suit laptop evenings and larger monitors. Wired Ethernet (or a strong 5 GHz link) matters more than CPU for HD streams; leave headroom if you also run a browser with many tabs.

Common desktop issues: VPN/DNS filters blocking playlists, sleep mode dropping the connection mid-match, and firewall prompts the first time a player opens.
